Academic Advising
Students who are undeclared or might be considering a change in major will find that our staff can help you explore options, interests, and talents. We will support you from choosing a major to determining life goals. Students are welcome to bring any advising questions and issues to the Student Development and Success office in Montgomery, which serves as the headquarters of the campus-wide advising system.

Tutoring, Writing Center and PRAXIS Prep
Converse believes in the close interaction between students and faculty both in and outside the classroom. This relationship forms the foundation for your academic success. We encourage you to discuss academic aspirations, questions, and concerns with your adviser and faculty. Converse offers many administrators, staff, peers, and resource programs to support you in your academic progress.
Mickel Library is also home to Converse’s Writing Center, the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, and our Spanish Writing & Language Center.
The tutoring program is available through Converse’s Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning to all our undergraduate students, free of charge. Tutors are available in most entry-level courses. Course offerings and tutoring times are posted each semester here.
We offer one on one tutoring sessions between students and a peer tutor. Peer tutors are current Converse students recommended by our esteemed faculty to help students in a specific subject. Peer tutors are high academic students who have shown proven success in your subject area of need. Converse’s peer tutors will focus on your needs and help you achieve academic success.
Converse tutors want to build a relationship with students and support them beyond academics. Building relationships helps us better understand students’ needs, establish a sense of community, and make them feel comfortable using all resources at Converse University.
Tutors are available morning, evenings, and weekends. We offer face-to-face and virtual options.

Learn more about the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning
Located on the second floor of the Mickel Library in Suite 204, the Writing Center provides writing assistance for any academic subject to all students enrolled at Converse. It offers flexible support, including both face-to-face and online help. In addition, any student who wishes to enhance their skills, independent of specific coursework, or have a friendly reader for their newest poem, essay or story, can find assistance in the center.
Consultants at the Writing Center do not simply proofread papers; they actively nurture their clients’ writing processes, serve as a thoughtful trial audience, and help students learn to identify and correct their own errors.
Working closely with the School of Education, we offer one-on-one counseling and practice tests for students preparing for the teaching exams.
